At approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an unresponsive individual at a residence in Dubuque County, Iowa.
Upon arrival at the home, located in the 9800 block of Haxbylane Road, authorities discovered the lifeless body of a woman.
Authorities determined that the woman, identified as 32-year-old Tana Poppe, had been a victim of foul play.
Poppe, who resided in the home with her two children—a 5-month-old infant and a 13-year-old teenager—was not found alongside her children at the scene.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the 5-month-old infant had been left at a residence in Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, authorities identified a person of interest connected to the incident, who was later involved in a vehicle pursuit in Dane County, Wisconsin, KCRG reported.
During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle was disabled, prompting its occupants to attempt to flee on foot. Among them was the 13-year-old child who had been sought by Dubuque authorities.
Tragically, the 13-year-old was later discovered deceased, with the circumstances surrounding their death remaining unclear.
The person of interest, identified as 38-year-old Alexander Grunke, was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a standoff with law enforcement at an Albion residence.
Court records revealed that Grunke had faced charges in March related to abduction and interference with child custody.
