Idaho woman, 85, fatally shot home intruder in ‘heroic’ act of self-defense

An 85-year-old woman in Idaho defended herself and her disabled son from an intruder, identified as Derek Condon, in a harrowing encounter at her home.

Prosecutors ruled the incident as justifiable homicide, recognizing the woman’s heroic act of self-preservation.

Condon broke into the woman’s home in the early hours of March 13, assaulting her and threatening her with a gun.

Despite being handcuffed, the woman managed to retrieve her .357 Magnum revolver and engage Condon in self-defense, ultimately fatally shooting him. In the exchange of gunfire, the woman sustained multiple injuries but survived, NBC News reported.

She remained handcuffed for hours until her son discovered her and called for help. Subsequent investigation revealed evidence of Condon’s break-in and theft.

Prosecutors concluded that the woman’s actions were justified under Idaho’s self-defense law, praising her remarkable courage in protecting herself and her son.
