Apple loses top phone-maker title to Samsung

Apple has been surpassed by Samsung as the world’s top phone maker, according to data from research firm IDC released over the weekend.

Apple experienced a roughly 10% drop in phone shipments in the first quarter of the year, resulting in a market share decrease to 17.3%.

Increased competition, particularly from Samsung’s new flagship models, contributed to Apple’s decline, Reuters reported.

Additionally, challenges in China, where sales reportedly fell by nearly a quarter in the early part of the year, pose further problems for Apple, with concerns over national security leading to restrictions on its phones.

Meanwhile, Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Huawei are gaining momentum, with Xiaomi closing in on Apple for third place globally, and Huawei’s latest flagship phones receiving praise despite U.S. sanctions.
