Over 1,300 Layoffs Hit Logistics Companies Across US

Warren, Michigan-based Universal Logistics is permanently closing two subsidiaries, resulting in the layoff of 677 employees.

The closures affect Logistics Insights Corp. and Universal Dedicated of Detroit, both located in Detroit.

Universal Dedicated of Detroit’s closure impacts 230 truck drivers, while Logistics Insights Corp.’s closure affects 164 warehouse workers, 212 forklift operators, 26 dockworkers, and 45 clerical employees.

The reason for the closures was not provided. Additionally, Swissport Cargo Services is laying off 235 workers in Atlanta due to losing a contract with Amazon, Zero Hedge has reported.

Kroger Co. is cutting over 230 jobs and closing delivery hubs in Texas and Miami. RXO Managed Transport is laying off 114 employees in Michigan due to the loss of a customer contract.

Nosco Inc. is closing a facility in Texas, resulting in 51 job losses, while Ryder Integrated Logistics is laying off 29 workers in Illinois due to losing a customer.
