NBA player Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors has been banned from the league for alleged gambling infractions, including betting on games, sharing insider information with bettors, and manipulating his health status to influence wagers.

The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, emphasized the importance of upholding the league’s integrity and announced severe repercussions for Porter’s actions.

Investigations revealed Porter’s involvement in widespread gambling activities, including placing multiple bets on NBA games while playing for the Raptors’ G League affiliate, NBC News reported.

Although legal sports betting has become widespread across the U.S., Porter’s case highlights concerns about the regulatory framework and the need to maintain transparency to detect suspicious behavior.
