Google fired 28 employees following protests over labor conditions and the company’s contract to provide cloud computing services to the Israeli government and military.
The protests included sit-ins at Google offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California, where some workers were arrested.
The fired employees were found to be involved in the protests.
The demonstrations were organized by the “No Tech For Apartheid” group, opposing Project Nimbus, a contract with the Israeli government, CNBC reported.
The protests also reflect concerns about the military use of Google’s technology. The fired employees criticized Google for working with the Israeli government, citing human rights concerns.
The company defended its work with governments, stating it provides general cloud computing services and does not support military activities.
The protests highlight growing tensions within Google over its government contracts and ethical concerns.
