Amidst the completion of jury selection for former President Donald Trump’s historic criminal trial, a man set himself on fire outside a New York City courthouse.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. ET in an area designated for demonstrators.
The man, critically injured, was found with pamphlets suggesting a cryptocurrency-related conspiracy.
Inside the courtroom, the selection process concluded with the addition of six alternates to the 12-person panel, marking a pivotal moment for the trial’s progression.
Among those selected were individuals from diverse backgrounds, including an unemployed art enthusiast, an audio professional, and a clothing company executive.
However, the day was not without emotional moments, as several potential jurors expressed anxiety or broke down during questioning, NBC News is reporting.
Trump, meanwhile, criticized the trial proceedings on social media, alleging unfair treatment.
As the trial advances, anticipation builds for the forthcoming testimonies and cross-examinations, with both prosecutors and Trump’s legal team preparing their strategies.
