Third House Republican backs Johnson ouster

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) announced his support on Friday for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) resolution to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from his position, becoming the third House Republican to endorse the ouster effort.

Gosar, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, cited his backing for Greene’s resolution shortly after the House advanced a foreign aid package without border security provisions, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing America’s interests.

He expressed concern over Johnson’s willingness to compromise with President Biden and Democrats on various legislative matters, including funding the federal government and extending surveillance powers, The Hill has reported.

Johnson’s approach to the Ukraine debate, particularly his endorsement of aid packages for Kyiv, Israel, and Taiwan, has drawn criticism from within the GOP, with hard-liners opposing deficit spending and expressing skepticism about U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts.
