Race car in Sri Lanka veers off track killing 7 people and injuring 20

During a race in Sri Lanka’s town of Diyatalawa, a tragic accident occurred when a race car veered off the track, crashing into spectators and officials.

The incident resulted in the death of seven individuals, including four event officials, and left 20 others injured, with three in critical condition.

The cause of the mishap remains unclear, prompting an investigation by the police.

The race, which was the 17th out of 24 scheduled events, was suspended following the accident, the Associated Press reported.

The race circuit, located at a Sri Lankan military academy, had attracted around 45,000 spectators for the event organized by the Sri Lankan army and Sri Lanka Automobile Sports.
