Judge reprimands Trump lawyer but holds off on gag order ruling

In Donald Trump’s criminal trial, the New York judge, Juan Merchan, postponed a decision on whether to fine Trump $10,000 for violating a gag order by attacking expected trial witnesses.

Trump’s lawyer, Todd Blanche, argued that Trump’s social media posts were political responses and thus permissible.

However, Judge Merchan expressed strong skepticism, stating that Blanche was losing credibility with the court.

Prosecutors sought contempt charges and fines for each of the 10 offending posts.

They also planned to allege further violations based on Trump’s remarks outside the courtroom, The Guardian has reported.

Trump has vehemently contested the indictment, which includes charges related to hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels.

Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, and Daniels are expected trial witnesses covered by the gag order.

Blanche claimed the posts were responses to attacks against Trump, but the judge questioned the timing and nature of Trump’s responses.
