Texas state troopers intervened as pro-Palestinian protesters gathered at the University of Texas at Austin campus.
The Palestine Solidarity Committee planned a demonstration called “the Popular University” to demand divestment from companies linked to Israel.
Despite efforts to occupy the campus lawn, law enforcement blocked their path.
Roughly 50 troopers, including mounted officers, arrived at the scene. Videos captured students chanting “Free Palestine” as they marched.
Four protesters were arrested. This protest follows similar actions at Columbia University.
Governor Abbott criticized Ivy League universities for supporting such protests, Newsweek reported.
Protests have surged on college campuses since Israel’s military operations in Gaza, with Houston becoming a focal point for demonstrations.
