Arizona’s state grand jury indicted individuals dubbed “fake electors” who supported Donald Trump in the 2020 election, part of a probe into attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state.
These individuals, including former Arizona GOP chair Kelli Ward, convened to sign a certificate claiming to be Arizona’s electors despite Biden’s win.
Notable figures among those charged include state legislators, party officials, and Republican activists.
The indictment also implicates Trump as an unindicted co-conspirator.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of upholding democracy, NBC News reported.
These charges reflect broader efforts across several states to address attempts to overturn election results.
