Young boy dies in Texas floodwaters as authorities make more than 200 rescues

Following heavy rainfall in Texas, the body of a young boy was discovered in floodwaters near Fort Worth on Sunday.

This marks the first reported fatality amidst storms prompting disaster declarations in over a third of the state’s counties.

The boy was found after a vehicle got stuck in rapidly moving water, leading to a 911 call reporting occupants swept into the floodwaters while seeking safety.

Despite rescuing a man and a woman, authorities were unable to save the boy. Floods have displaced thousands, with over 200 rescues in Harris County alone.

While Houston saw no deaths or serious injuries, the impact on livelihoods and infrastructure has been significant, CNN reported.

Rescue operations continue, with some residents reluctant to leave their homes despite the rising waters.

Numerous river gauges indicate major flooding across the state.
