Vodou growing in Haiti amid increased gang violence

Amid the chaos and violence plaguing Haiti, the Vodou faithful find solace and protection in their religion, which is increasingly gaining acceptance after centuries of persecution.

As gangs terrorize communities and leave thousands homeless, many Haitians turn to Vodou priests, seeking divine intervention for urgent needs like locating kidnapped loved ones or obtaining life-saving medication.

Vodou, rooted in the country’s history as the catalyst for Haiti’s revolution against slavery, has long been suppressed by political and religious authorities, the Associated Press reported.

Despite oppression and violence, Vodou continues to thrive as a source of spiritual strength and resilience for many Haitians in the face of adversity.
