A man, Virgil Price, went missing while diving off Florida’s Atlantic coast. However, searchers discovered a different body, leading to confusion as nobody matching the description had been reported missing.

The unidentified deceased individual, found by the U.S. Coast Guard with assistance from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, did not match the physical characteristics or clothing of Price.

The Coast Guard is investigating the situation while awaiting results from a medical examination to determine the cause and time of death.

Despite extensive search efforts covering 1,415 miles over 36 hours, the search for Price was suspended, the Miami Herald has reported.

He was last seen diving near the shipwreck of the S.S. Halsey, but the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear.
