OpenAI disbands team devoted to risks

OpenAI recently confirmed the dissolution of its team dedicated to addressing the potential risks associated with highly advanced artificial intelligence.

The process of disbanding the group, known as “superalignment,” began weeks ago, with its members being reassigned to other projects within the organization.

Notably, OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and team co-leader Jan Leike have announced their departure from the company.

This move comes amidst growing concerns about the regulation and safety of advanced AI technologies.

In response to these developments, Leike emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety in the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI), AFP has reported.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged Leike’s concerns and expressed gratitude for his contributions, pledging the organization’s commitment to addressing these issues moving forward.

Altman also promised further updates on the matter in the near future.
