New images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter reveal a ‘dead’ robot lying on the Martian surface.
Launched in 2005, the orbiter’s mission is to investigate the presence of water on Mars over extended periods.
Despite previous findings indicating past water activity, uncertainties persist regarding its duration and potential to support life.
Equipped with high-resolution cameras, the orbiter has documented Mars’ dynamic environment, capturing phenomena such as shifting sand dunes and seasonal ice.
With over 18 years of operation, it ranks as the third longest-lasting spacecraft orbiting Mars, Supercar Blondie has reported.
In its recent imagery, the orbiter spotted what appears to be a defunct robot on the surface, which turns out to be NASA’s InSight lander, retired since 2022.
Despite its inactive status, InSight continues to provide valuable insights into Martian conditions, reassuring observers that it’s not evidence of extraterrestrial robotics.
