Trump gives speech at Libertarian National Convention

Former President Donald Trump faced a hostile crowd at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, D.C., where he sought support from Libertarian voters.

Despite being the first former president to address this group, Trump and his supporters were met with boos, heckling, and outbursts.

Trump’s speech, where he urged Libertarians to join forces with Republicans to defeat President Joe Biden, was interrupted multiple times by audience members booing and turning their backs.

Trump supporter Vivek Ramaswamy also faced negative reactions when he tried to advocate for Trump, emphasizing a “libertarian-nationalist alliance.”

Ahead of Trump’s speech, logistical arrangements placed his supporters at the back of the room, leading to further disruptions, the Daily Mail has reported.

Trump responded to the hostile reception by mocking the Libertarian Party’s electoral success and promising to include Libertarians in his cabinet if elected.

He also tried to align himself with Libertarian values by criticizing government overreach and pledging to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, a cause popular among Libertarians.

Despite the tensions, the event saw moments of support for Trump, particularly when he discussed policies like opposing central bank digital currencies and protecting cryptocurrencies.

The convention, themed “become ungovernable,” reflected the Libertarians’ commitment to individual and civil liberties, and featured a lively, sometimes chaotic atmosphere.
