1 dead after IDF and Egyptian soldiers exchange fire

Israeli and Egyptian troops exchanged fire at their shared border near Rafah, resulting in the death of an Egyptian soldier.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported the incident and are investigating, noting that discussions are ongoing with Egyptian authorities.

Israel claims Egyptian forces initiated the shooting, a claim backed by Israeli military correspondent Doron Kadosh.

The Egyptian military confirmed the incident and announced their own investigation. This exchange follows an Israeli airstrike on a Rafah refugee camp, killing at least 45 Palestinians and injuring 60.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strike a “tragic mistake” and pledged an investigation, the U.S. Sun reported.

The IDF stated the strike targeted a Hamas compound and killed two senior Hamas commanders, Yassin Rabia and Khaled Najjar.

The airstrike caused a fire that engulfed tents and shelters where many civilians were seeking refuge, leading to significant civilian casualties.

The IDF acknowledged the harm to civilians and stated the incident is under review.
