A lightning strike killed Colorado rancher Mike Morgan, 51, and 34 head of cattle over the weekend, officials reported Sunday.
Morgan was feeding cattle from a trailer in an open pasture near Rand, about 80 miles northwest of Denver, when he was struck and died on the scene despite life-saving efforts.
The lightning bolt also knocked over around 100 head of cattle, with 34 not surviving. Morgan’s father-in-law and wife were nearby but unharmed, ABC News reported.
The incident shocked the close-knit community where most residents know each other, according to the county coroner.
