The temporary U.S.-built pier delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza will be removed for repairs after damage from rough seas, the Pentagon announced.
The pier will be taken to Ashdod, Israel, for repairs expected to take over a week, after which it will be reinstalled in Gaza.
Despite its brief operation, the pier has faced several challenges, including adverse weather and crowd issues, resulting in injuries to U.S. service members and temporary halts in aid deliveries, the Associated Press reported.
The pier is crucial for supplying aid to Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, as other crossings are largely inaccessible due to the fighting.
