David DePape, convicted of assaulting then-U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband in 2022, was re-sentenced to 30 years in prison on Tuesday, reaffirming the original sentence.
The case was reopened to allow DePape to speak during his sentencing hearing, a right initially denied by U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley.
DePape apologized for the attack before being re-sentenced. He had forcibly entered Pelosi’s San Francisco home on October 28, 2022, and attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer in a politically motivated assault.
DePape was found guilty of attempting to kidnap a federal officer and assaulting a family member of a federal officer, driven by far-right QAnon conspiracy theories, Reuters reported.
Paul Pelosi, 82, continues to suffer from skull fractures, balance issues, and permanent nerve damage in his left hand.
DePape also faces state charges, including attempted murder, which could result in an additional 13 years to life in prison.
He has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
