Southern Germany hit by catastrophic flooding

Residents in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have been urged to exercise extreme caution as evacuations continue across the southern German states.

States of emergency have been declared in several districts, and the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued severe weather warnings in over ten districts, predicting more heavy rain in the next 24-48 hours.

Evacuations began Friday evening, with an apartment building in Lindau, Bavaria, cleared due to water infiltration, which posed a risk of electrical short-circuits, the DW reported.

The displaced residents were relocated to a nearby gymnasium. In Baden-Württemberg’s Lake Constance district, approximately 1,300 people were also asked to evacuate due to flooding risks.
