A 27-year-old man was killed and 24 others were wounded in an overnight shooting at a birthday party in Akron, Ohio, according to local police.
The Akron Police Department received reports of the shooting just after midnight on Sunday. Victims, ranging in age from 19 to 43, were taken to various local hospitals, with at least two in critical condition.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik expressed condolences and concern over the incident, highlighting the ongoing issue of gun violence in the country.
Two handguns were recovered at the scene, but police believe more weapons may have been involved, suggesting the incident could have been a drive-by shooting with possible return fire from partygoers.
Over 35 shell casings were found, and police have no description of the vehicle involved. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified, NPR has reported.
Earlier on Saturday, police had dispersed a large gathering at the same location, which later reconvened between 10 PM and midnight.
Authorities are urging the community to provide any information related to the shooting.
