A New York City couple, James Kane and Barbie Agostini, who are popular on social media for their magnet fishing adventures, recently made a surprising discovery.
While magnet fishing in a Queens pond, they pulled up a safe containing stacks of waterlogged hundred dollar bills, estimated to be worth $100,000.
Initially thinking the safe would be empty, they were stunned to find the cash.
They contacted the NYPD due to potential legal issues, but since the safe’s owner couldn’t be identified, they were allowed to keep the money, although the bills were severely damaged.
Kane and Agostini started magnet fishing during the coronavirus pandemic, referring to it as “the poor man’s treasure hunting.”
Their YouTube channel, documenting their finds, has garnered over 4,000 subscribers and about 1.4 million views, CBS News has reported.
Other recent magnet fishing discoveries include a human skull in New Orleans and a rifle along with belongings of a couple killed nearly a decade ago in Georgia.
