The Colorado Republican Party sparked controversy at the beginning of Pride Month by sending out a mass email attacking Pride celebrations and calling for the burning of Pride flags.
The email, titled “God Hates Pride,” accused Pride supporters of being “godless groomers” aiming to harm children.
The party’s chairman, Dave Williams, endorsed the message.
A social media post by the party further fueled the controversy by advocating for the burning of all Pride flags.
In response, Valdamar Archuleta, a candidate endorsed by the Colorado Log Cabin Republicans, denounced the GOP’s endorsement, calling the email hateful and offensive, NBC 9 News reported.
Despite this, Chairman Williams stated that Archuleta would still receive the party’s support.
The incident follows previous controversial statements from the Colorado GOP, including calls for parents to withdraw their children from public schools over alleged Democratic efforts to promote transgenderism.
