Stranded kite surfer’s “HELP” message on Santa Cruz County beach leads to rescue

A kite surfer found himself stranded on the Santa Cruz County coastline and devised a clever solution for rescue, according to authorities.

Using rocks on the beach, he spelled out the word “HELP,” which caught the attention of a private helicopter pilot.

The pilot alerted rescue crews from Cal Fire, Santa Cruz County Fire Department, and California State Parks.

Together, they orchestrated a successful rescue operation, utilizing a helicopter to extract the stranded surfer from the beach, CBS News has reported.

Fortunately, he sustained no injuries, requiring assistance only due to the surrounding steep cliffs. The duration of his stranding was not specified.
