Thousands of dead fish pile up on dried out lagoon in drought-hit Mexico

A devastating sight unfolds in Mexico’s Chihuahua state as thousands of dead fish cover the surface of Bustillos Lagoon, near Anahuac town, attributed to a severe drought.

With temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and water levels drastically low, officials express concerns over the lagoon’s ecological health.

Nearly 90% of Mexico grapples with drought, marking the highest rate since 2011, with Chihuahua severely impacted by extreme dryness, CNN reported.

Irma de la Pena, from Cuauhtemoc’s Ecology Department, highlights the dire conditions, emphasizing the heightened concentration of pollutants in dwindling water reserves.

This tragic event echoes past occurrences when fish were stranded due to lagoon dry-ups.
