Atlanta bus ‘hijacker’ hid inside Peachtree Center mall during mass shooting hours earlier

Joseph Grier, charged with murder and over a dozen counts of kidnapping, was hiding inside a Wells Fargo during the Peachtree Center mall shooting earlier that day, reports say.

Grier recounted to 11Alive witnessing a confrontation between the suspect and two women before shots were fired, resulting in three people being shot.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Grier mentioned he had been off his medication for two weeks and experienced a manic episode, stating, “Right now I’m in an extreme mode.”

Hours after the shooting, Grier allegedly hijacked a commuter bus in downtown Atlanta, fatally shot one person, and led police on a chase through three counties, the Daily Express reported.

He faces over two dozen charges, including murder. Grier, 39, was apprehended on Tuesday after police stopped the bus in DeKalb County and was booked into the Fulton County Jail early Wednesday.

He is being held without bond, and no lawyer or relatives have been identified to comment on the charges.
