Bipartisan congressional delegation will travel to Israel ahead of Netanyahu address to Congress

Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation to Israel this week, amid discussions of a potential boycott by some Democrats of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming address to Congress.

Nine House members will meet with Israeli leaders to discuss the war in Gaza, the humanitarian situation, efforts for a temporary ceasefire, and the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Hoyer emphasized the importance of strengthening the US-Israel relationship and maintaining bipartisan support for Israel.

Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, which includes his July 24 speech, comes at a time of strained relations with President Biden over Israel’s war tactics and humanitarian concerns in Gaza, CNN has reported.

Some Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Jim Clyburn, plan to boycott the speech. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, despite disagreements with Netanyahu, supports the invitation.
