House GOP leaders have launched an inquiry into the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), alleging the agency played a role in purported retaliation against two IRS whistleblowers crucial to the investigation involving Hunter Biden.
Led by House Speaker Mike Johnson and other prominent Republicans, they sent a letter to Karen Gorman, the acting principal deputy special counsel, demanding a briefing.
The investigation aims to determine if the OSC was involved in what they describe as a “smear campaign” against Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, who raised concerns about potential wrongdoing.
Both whistleblowers have filed claims alleging retaliation, currently pending with the OSC, THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER has reported.
The Republicans expressed concern over public filings that they claim unfairly portrayed the whistleblowers negatively, suggesting OSC inaction exacerbated the situation.
The OSC has acknowledged receiving the letter but declined to provide further comment to the media.
