Netanyahu disbands Israeli war cabinet

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has disbanded his war cabinet, just over a week after opposition leader Benny Gantz withdrew from the group.

The war cabinet was established after a series of Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Israel in October.

Gantz, who is seen as Netanyahu’s main political rival, withdrew from the cabinet due to what he perceived as Netanyahu’s lack of strategy for dealing with the conflict in Gaza and its future governance.

Gantz accused Netanyahu of prioritizing his own political interests over a post-war strategy for Gaza and called for early elections to be held in the coming months, CNN has reported.

As a result, decision-making will now return to the main security cabinet, with Netanyahu holding smaller forums to discuss sensitive matters.
