2 hurt as firefighters battle four-alarm blaze in Chicago

A two-alarm fire in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood on Tuesday evening escalated to four alarms and required a hazardous materials response.

The fire, which started around 6:30 p.m. near West Hubbard Street and North Damen Avenue, affected Commercial Pallet, Inc., a family-owned business operating since 1978.

Smoke from the fire was visible from as far as northwest suburban Schaumburg. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries but are expected to recover, WGN-TV has reported.

The fire disrupted Metra train services, damaging one track and leading to several cancellations. Commuters are advised to check Metra’s website for updates.

There were no reported injuries among civilians.
