An Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy, Bradley Reckling, was killed in an ambush while attempting to recover a stolen vehicle in Detroit.
Reckling and two other detectives were searching for a stolen 2022 Chevrolet Equinox on Saturday night when the suspects stopped the vehicle and opened fire, hitting Reckling in the head and chest.
The other detectives were unharmed. Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated the incident unfolded quickly and no dashcam footage is available as Reckling was in an unmarked vehicle.
Detroit police and Michigan State Police swiftly responded and arrested three suspects, Fox2 Detroit has reported.
Reckling, a nine-year veteran, leaves behind three young children and a pregnant wife. Bouchard emphasized the need for support for Reckling’s family and fellow deputies.
