A 26-year-old woman from Pennsylvania drowned after falling into the water above St. Mary’s Falls in Glacier National Park, Montana.

Witnesses reported that she was swept over the falls and trapped underwater for several minutes. Bystanders managed to pull her out and performed CPR until emergency responders arrived.

Despite efforts from park rangers, an ambulance crew, and a rescue helicopter, she was pronounced dead around 7:20 PM.

The incident is under investigation, and a state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy, The Guardian has reported.
