The Department of Homeland Security has identified over 400 migrants brought to the US by an ISIS-affiliated smuggling network, with more than 50 unaccounted for.
Over 150 migrants have been arrested, and ICE is seeking to arrest others on immigration charges due to potential ISIS ties.
No threats have been linked to these migrants since the arrests began. Many of the migrants, who were not on the terrorism watchlist, crossed the southern border and were released into the country.
Heightened concern over ISIS-K has led to increased monitoring of migrants from countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia, the New York Post has reported.
Tajikistan, a known ISIS-K hotbed, saw over 1,500 migrants enter the US from October 2020 to May 2024. Most migrants claim asylum and stay in the US while awaiting court hearings.
ISIS-K was behind a deadly attack in Moscow in March, killing 145 people.
