Democrats are talking about replacing Joe Biden

President Joe Biden’s performance in the first debate on Thursday has led to criticism from Democrats and questions about whether he should remain the party’s nominee.

Historically, a national party has never adversarially replaced its nominee, as party rules make it nearly impossible without the nominee’s consent and would undermine the primary results, where Biden secured almost 99% of the delegates.

Despite no serious efforts to replace him currently, the Democratic National Committee’s charter does allow for a nominee to be replaced if incapacitated or if they choose to step aside, though an anti-Biden move at the convention remains highly unlikely, NBC News has reported.

President Joe Biden aimed to reassure the nation about his physical and mental capacity during Thursday night’s debate.

However, at 81, he struggled from the start, speaking in a weak, raspy voice, frequently tripping over his words, misspeaking, and losing his train of thought.
