Ukraine Thwarts Alleged Coup Scheme, Officials Say

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office reported that a group of people were detained in Kyiv on suspicion of planning a coup.

Police exposed a group of pseudo-activists preparing provocations in the capital, leading to charges against four citizens for distributing materials calling for the violent overthrow of Ukraine’s government.

Two individuals were remanded in custody.

Investigators revealed that from May to June, the group spread online posts discrediting Ukraine’s leadership and advocating for a seizure of state power.

The alleged organizer, a local public union head with a history of provocations, rented a hall in Kyiv and tried to recruit servicemen and militia, Newsweek has reported.

The accomplices were from the Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv regions, and an NGO head from Prykarpattia declined to join due to the plan’s obvious illegality.
