Three suspects are in custody following a tragic incident at Newport Beach’s Fashion Island shopping center in Orange County.

The suspects attempted to rob a husband and wife outside a Barnes and Noble bookstore, leading to a struggle.

A getaway driver arrived in a white Toyota Camry, but one suspect fled after firing a gun, thankfully without injuring anyone.

However, the driver fled the scene, fatally striking the 69-year-old wife.

The suspects were pursued into Los Angeles County, where they abandoned their car in South Gate and attempted to escape on foot.

All three were apprehended shortly thereafter, KTLA has reported.

The Newport Beach community and law enforcement responded swiftly to the incident, which remains under investigation.
