Arizona man killed by swarm of bees

A worker at an Arizona golf course, Rick Messina, tragically died last month after being attacked by a swarm of bees.

Messina, 57, was part of the agronomy team at Oro Valley’s El Conquistador Golf and Tennis, responsible for maintaining the grounds.

On June 24, while mowing near Pusch Ridge Golf Course’s eighth hole, he was stung by an aggressive bee swarm.

Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Messina died three days later due to complications from the stings.

Professional beekeepers inspected the site following the incident to ensure safety. The club honored Messina, noting his dedication, work ethic, and positive attitude, the Daily Express has reported.

General Manager Darryl Janisse expressed deep sorrow in an email to club members and announced new safety protocols, including signage to warn visitors about wildlife and venomous creatures.

Arizona hosts numerous bee species, most of which are not harmful to humans. However, some swarms and hives can cause severe harm and fatalities.
