AT&T has revealed that a hacker has stolen records of calls and texts from nearly all of its wireless customers, as stated in a recent financial filing.
The compromised data does not include call or text content, personal information, or Social Security numbers, but identifies phone numbers involved in interactions and summarizes call durations.
In response, AT&T has implemented additional cybersecurity measures and closed the point of unauthorized access.
The company is notifying current and former affected customers and is cooperating with law enforcement, with at least one suspect apprehended, ABC News has reported.
AT&T confirmed that the breach was confined to a workspace on Snowflake’s cloud platform and did not affect its network.
The Justice Department granted AT&T national security exemptions, allowing the company to delay public reporting of the breach until now.
