Florida judge dismisses the Trump classified documents case

A Florida judge has dismissed the classified documents case against Donald Trump, ruling that the appointment and funding of special counsel Jack Smith were illegal.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump nominee, stated in her 93-page decision that Smith’s appointment was “unlawful” and ordered the case closed.

This ruling coincided with the first day of the Republican National Convention and followed an assassination attempt on Trump, NBC News has reported.

Trump welcomed the decision and suggested it could lead to the dismissal of other criminal cases against him. The Justice Department has not yet commented on the ruling.
