Ethiopia landslide rescuers pull 229 bodies from mud

Rescue teams have retrieved 229 bodies following two landslides in southern Ethiopia’s Gofa zone, according to local officials.

The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, occurred on Sunday evening and Monday morning. The search for survivors is ongoing, with the death toll potentially rising.

Footage shows many people at the scene, digging through debris to find those trapped.

The landslides have affected both adults and children, with 10 survivors currently hospitalized, the BBC has reported.

The second landslide buried rescue workers who were searching for survivors from the first incident. Gofa is about 320km southwest of Addis Ababa.
