Rep. Mike Kelly, who witnessed the July 13 assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, will lead a House task force investigating the incident.
The bipartisan panel, announced by Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, includes 13 lawmakers—seven Republicans and six Democrats.
The task force will have subpoena power and aims to issue a final report by December 13.
It will consolidate ongoing House investigations into the attack and has members with backgrounds in law enforcement, military, and legal affairs, the Associated Press has reported.
The task force is tasked with finding facts, ensuring accountability, and preventing future attacks.
