20-year-old man falls 400 feet to his death from rim of Grand Canyon

A 20-year-old man, Abel Joseph Mejia from Hickory, North Carolina, tragically fell 400 feet to his death from a scenic overlook at the Grand Canyon.

The incident occurred near Pipe Creek Overlook, a popular stop on Desert View Drive. The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received the report on Wednesday morning, and park rangers quickly located Mejia’s body.

Officials stated that Mejia accidentally fell while near the edge of the rim. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, ABC News has reported.

The circumstances leading to Mejia’s fall remain unclear.
