House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good has officially lost his primary recount, confirming his defeat to GOP state Sen. John McGuire.
McGuire, who led by 374 votes in the June primary, will now face the end of Good’s tenure as chairman, making him the first sitting House Republican to lose to a primary challenger this year.
The recount concludes the race, which saw significant GOP opposition, including endorsements for McGuire from former President Donald Trump and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Trump’s support, including a TV ad and tele-rally, helped McGuire, who had previously questioned the certification of the 2024 presidential election results, NBC News has reported.
Good’s endorsement of Trump did not sway Trump’s support, who criticized Good in his campaign for McGuire.
