Boston Dynamics unveils ‘creepy’ robot to replace Atlas

Boston Dynamics has introduced a new all-electric version of its humanoid robot, Atlas, following the discontinuation of the previous hydraulic model known for its parkour and backflip abilities.

In a video shared on social media, the next-gen Atlas is shown standing up from a lying-down position, a movement impossible for humans, which some viewers found “creepy” and “scary.”

The company explained that the humanoid design allows Atlas to operate in human environments, and its movements, although unnatural, are designed to surpass human physical limitations.

Boston Dynamics aims for Atlas to be stronger, more dexterous, and more agile, with real-world applications to address industry challenges, Reuters has reported.

Hyundai will be the first to use the new Atlas to enhance its manufacturing capabilities.
