A judge ruled that former Illinois deputy Sean Grayson, charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting Sonya Massey in her home, will remain in jail despite his medical needs.
The judge determined that electronic monitoring would not adequately protect the community, citing Grayson as a “real and present threat.”
The decision comes as Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell announced his retirement under pressure, acknowledging the department’s failure in the case, NBC News has reported.
Grayson, who was fired after the July 6 shooting, had a history of disciplinary issues at his previous job.
