Gunman dies after shootout, hours-long standoff with cops near Ohio State campus

A gunman who barricaded himself in a building near Ohio State University and exchanged gunfire with police during an hours-long standoff was pronounced dead on Sunday.

The incident began around 8 a.m. when the suspect allegedly broke into a building on the university’s south campus in Columbus, Ohio, and fired a gun.

Police responded, witnessed the suspect reloading, and then saw him barricade himself inside. Despite multiple exchanges of gunfire, no officers were injured, the New York Post has reported.

The suspect’s death was confirmed at 1:15 p.m., though the cause of death is still unclear.
