‘One of the most violent’ Jan. 6 rioters receives a 20-year prison sentence

David Dempsey, a supporter of Donald Trump who participated in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for assaulting police officers.

Dempsey, who had expressed a desire to hang Democratic politicians and was one of the most violent rioters during the attack, used various objects as weapons against law enforcement.

This is the second-longest sentence handed out for a January 6 case, NBC News has reported.

The judge, Royce Lamberth, condemned Dempsey’s actions and criticized the rhetoric of some politicians who have attempted to downplay the severity of the events that day.
